Session Summary: Brenna O’Malley, RDN, LDN is a private practice dietitian and founder of The Wellful. Join Brenna as she discusses the unique position and responsibility of dietitians with an online presence. This presentation will cover how to build a successful online brand, key considerations for ethical partnerships and disclosures – in response to the recent Washington Post article – and best practices for dietitians who want to educate about diet culture on social media.


Speaker Bio: Brenna O’Malley, a registered dietitian and owner of The Wellful, a virtual nutrition therapy private practice based in San Francisco. Brenna specializes in a non-diet approach and helps clients recover from disordered eating to build a healthy relationship with food, their bodies, and themselves. Brenna is nationally recognized in the media and is regularly quoted in publications like Well+Good, Bustle, PopSugar, HuffPost about nutrition, food marketing, disordered eating and body image. Brenna completed her Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from New York University and her dietetic internship training at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. When not seeing clients, she loves doing candle-lit yoga, biking to the beach, and exploring the Bay Area.

  1. Describe the responsibility and power of dietitians with an online presence, particularly in light of diet culture and paid partnerships on social media.

  2. Discuss the challenges, opportunities and impact of language, digital marketing, branding on the end consumer.

  3. Provide actionable takeaways for dietitians to implement in their online professional presence.
