Lauren Shamie

Program: Tufts University/Tufts Medical Center MS/DI Program, Class of 2025

My name is Lauren, and I am currently a second year student in the combined
MS/DI program at Tufts University. I am dedicated to understanding the intricate balance
between improving nutritional health, reducing food waste, and minimizing environmental
impact. As the President of the MSDA, my mission is to empower fellow nutrition students and
create a dynamic and inclusive environment where future nutrition and dietetics professionals
can thrive, share knowledge, and hone in on their experience. I am excited for the year ahead
and look forward to all the upcoming events!


Vice President

Kate Best

Program: Tufts University/Tufts Medical Center MS/DI Program, Class of 2025

My name is Kate and I am a second year student in the combined MS/DI program
at Tufts University. I am passionate about the diverse and evolving world of nutrition and
currently navigating my interests through my internship. As the Vice President of the MSDA, I
am committed to working closely with the President and our dedicated team to elevate the
MSDA’s presence and influence within the dietetic community. I look forward to a year filled
with growth, collaboration, and empowering the future of nutrition and dietetics!

Carrie Wu

Program: Tufts University/Tufts Medical Center MS/DI Program, Class of 2025

My name is Carrie, and I am currently a second-year student in the combined MSDI program at Tufts University. My passion for nutrition and dietetics stems from a deep love for food and a firm belief in the principle that "food as medicine" can profoundly impact health and wellness. As the MSDA Treasurer, I am dedicated to ensuring the successful financial management of our events throughout the year, helping us foster a thriving and informed community. I’m thrilled about the coming year and the opportunity to contribute to our community’s growth!

Secretary 

Hannah Milstein

Program: Boston University DPD/MS+DI Program, Class of 2026

I’m Hannah, a second year student in Boston University’s DPD/MS+DI program. I am passionate about the ways in which food and nutrition influence us on an individual, community, and global level. I am eager to nurture the relationship between people and the food we eat from before a seed is planted until the moment it reaches our plates. I view nutrition as a tool that can promote the betterment of our personal health as well as that of the planet, and I am looking forward to sharing and expanding my knowledge about nutrition as Secretary of the MSDA!

 

Education Chair 

Shilu Wang 

Program: Boston University/Mass General Hospital MS/DI Program, Class of 2026

My name is Shilu and I am a first year student in the combined MS/DI program at Boston University. I have always been intrigued by the interdisciplinary culture in the clinical nutrition field and envisioned myself as a dietitian improving the health outcomes of my clients. As the Education Chair of the MSDA, I am dedicated to expanding community outreach and helping prospective nutrition students network with professionals. I look forward to a year of teamwork, growth, and the pursuit of new opportunities!

 

Philanthropy Chair

Jiawen Li

Program: Tufts University/Tufts Medical Center MS/DI Program, Class of 2025

My name is Jiawen Li, and I am a second year student in the combined MS/DI program at Tufts university. I am particularly interested in exploring the intricate balance of nutrition and diet in the context of managing human health and addressing disease. As the Philanthropy Chair of the MSDA, my mission is to foster a sense of community by sharing my passion for nutrition and actively engaging with local outreach efforts. I am excited to meet all of you and to explore the great opportunities this year!


Social Media Chair

Lydia Bunszel

My name is Lydia and I am a first year student in Boston University’s MS+DI program. I’ve always been fascinated by the holistic nature of nutrition and how food can impact both health and behavioral outcomes. With a passion for nutrition communication, I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to refine my journalism skills while contributing to MSDA’s mission as Social Media Chair. I’m looking forward to an amazing year ahead!

MDEF Scholarships

For 2024, MDEF will be giving out two MDEF scholarships and one MDEF Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) scholarship to deserving nutrition students, each in the amount of $1500. Please pass along to any nutrition students or interns who may be eligible to apply!
