Role of Functional Medicine in Balancing and Supporting Better Health

Functional medicine is a health approach that focuses on identifying the underlying causes of disease and illness. Functional medicine practitioners are medical detectives who seek to correct underlying imbalances with therapies like repairing the GI tract, detoxification, optimizing nutrition, and balancing hormones. Hormones play a vital role in stress, sleep, moods, and ageing. Your daily habits including diet affects your hormones. Symptoms from a hormonal imbalance include hot flashes, night sweats, weight gain, mood swings, skin health, and sleep disturbances.

Objectives:
1. Describe the differences between convention medicine and functional medicine.
2. Learn about laboratory and diagnostic testing that measure hormone function.
3. Identify how nutrition and Ayurveda medicine can be optimized to improve hormone function and overall well-being.
4. Examine case studies of hormone dysfunction and digestive imbalances.
