Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) affects between 1.7% and 2.4% of the general population. Clinicians need to effectively assess for the disorder and provide evidence-based treatment in working with clients with BDD. The workshop will outline diagnostic criteria for BDD and provide information on how to differentiate BDD from other disorders like eating disorders, OCD, trichotillomania, and excoriation disorder. The presenters will discuss muscle dysmorphia, subtype of BDD, and more common in men. Presenters will also outline types of rituals BDD sufferers engage in; including cosmetic surgery, excessive mirror checking, reassurance seeking, camouflaging. The workshop includes a comprehensive overview of the biopsychosocial model as it relates to the onset of BDD and assessment of clients for BDD.

The workshop will conclude with a discussion of BDD treatment using evidence-based approaches including CBT, ACT, mindfulness, nutrition & psychopharmacology. A case example including interaction and participation from the audience is incorporated.
